 Tilicho Lake is situated at the altitude of 5200m from the sea level, making it the lake located in the highest altitude in the world. It was formed by the glacier melting from Annapurna. Being surrounded by mountains this creates truly a beautiful and amazing sight. The main highlight of the trek is the adventurous Thorung La pass at the altitude of 5416m. The trek route passes through deep gorges, high mountains passes making the journey exhilarating. Along the trek, we will visit many Buddhist and Hindu temples, many farming villages and obviously, the striking views of Annapurna I(8091m) summit is there too with other mountains like Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt. Manaslu (8163 m), Mt. Annapurna II (7937 m.), Mt. Annapurna III (7555m), Mt. Annapurna IV (7525m), Mt. Annapurna South (7219m), Mt. Nilgiri (7041m), Mt. Machhapuchhare (Fishtail) also called Mt. Machhapuchhare (6998m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6441m), Mt. Lamjung Himal (6986m), Tukuche peak (6920m), Tilicho peak (7134m).

Along with Buddhist and Hindu culture, we also get an opportunity to get insights about the Tibetan culture which strongly runs in the Mustang region. We will walk through many climatic zones and pass rice paddy fields, subtropical forests, farmlands, and chilly glacial zones.

Day-wise Itinerary
Detailed itinerary for 16 Days Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake

Today is your arrival at Tribhuwan Airport (TIA), Kathmandu. One of our representatives, Paradise Himalayan Journey staff will welcome you and take you to the hotel. Our staff will visit you in the evening to discuss the journey that will start early the next morning.

After an early breakfast, our staff will pick you up at 7:00 am. We will drive to Besishar. Besishar is about 185km away from Kathmandu and will take 7 hours to arrive. We will come across many beautiful villages, farms, and rivers. Once we arrive we will already be able to see the graceful snow-capped mountains. We will stay overnight in a guest house.

On day 3 we will drive to Chame via Dharapani. The drive will take about 5 hours while you can enjoy the scenery of the George, the waterfalls, hills, and terraced fields along the road to Dharapani. Dharapani is one of the big villages in Manag Valley. Then driving across Dharapani, we will see the change of vegetation as the air gets cooler and the landscape changes. You witness the views of peaks like Lamjung and Annapurna II. We will cross the Marsyangdi River on a suspension bridge as we pass the villages of Ratamanag and Koto. During the drive, we can see high oak trees and maple trees near the river as well. Once we reach Chame we will stay there overnight.

The trek from Chame follows through deep forest in a steep and narrow valley, crossing rivers on long suspension bridges, and we will climb to Pisang. We will climb up to Telekhu at 2840m and walk through Brathang (2950m). As the trail rounds a bend, we will see the Paungda Danda Rock dace which is a huge curved slab of rock which rises more than 1500 meters from the river. We will make another cross back to the south bank of Marsyangdi river through the suspension bridge(3080m), we will have to climb over a ridge with blue pine forests. This leads us to the upper part of Manag valley and we come to the beginning of the Nyesyang region. We can see an amazing view of Annapurna II and Chulu peak from here and stay overnight at a lodge

Today’s trek starts from a gentle climb through the upper part of Manang district to the Tibetan style village named Bryanga at 3500 meters. Leaving Pisang behind, we will walk forward on the trail south of the Marsyangdi River which meets up at Mungji. We can see the splendid views of valleys and Hongdre village with its short airstrip, and the bewildering view of Gangapurna, Tilicho, Chuli, Annapurna II, III, and Pisang peaks. After walking downhill all the way to Hongdre and the walk from there to Manang is pretty much smooth and leveled. 

Once we reach Bryanga, we can see houses stacked one on top of another with an open veranda formed by a neighbor’s rooftop. The village is the largest in the Manang district and the shops are well stocked. After a quick visit to the monastery in Brayanga, we will head today Manag at 3540 m and rest at a guesthouse for the night.

We spend today in Manang village walking around the villages and spectating the mesmerizing views of the village as well as the mountain ranges. Today is important as we will soon rise to the attitude of 4700m so your body needs rest as well as time to adapt. We can visit the monastery, side trip to Gangapurna Lake, and visit Himalayan Rescue Association Clinic then rest up for tomorrow.

Day 7 of our journey continues from Manang as we head through the western gates and then follow the path to the river. During the trek, we can see Gungang Himal and Mt Chulu. Passing along the south-west route, we will reach to Khangsar at (3735m). We cross the Khangsar Khola and ascend the slope to an old Tibetan style village. Khangsar village is the last village before Thinegan and Jomsom, also known as the last village of Nepal. We rest at a Guesthouse for the night.

From Khangsar Village, we begin our trek to Tilicho Base Camp where we will come across wide grassy fields then reach the middle of landslide areas. We can see man impressive rock formations here. After that, we will climb up a small hill where we can view the stunning sceneries of the entire valley. We will then ascend to Tilicho Base Camp which is at the elevation of 4200 meters. There are not many lodges in this area so we will stay in the camp. The trek will take 5 hours. Once we reach Tilicho Base Camp, we can get a gracious view of Tilicho Peak and other mountains.

Day 9 of our Annapurna Circuit Trek, we start our trek early morning to avoid afternoon wind. After climbing steeps for 2-3 hours, we will finally reach Tilicho Lake. Tilicho Lake is known to be the world’s highest lake as well as ‘the great ice lake’. This lake is large, sparkling, that lies at the foot of the north face of Tilicho peak. After exploring the place for a while, we will take the same route back to Yak Kharka and stay there overnight.\

On Day 10, we will descend to the uninhabited Khangsar villae. We will pass the Tare gumba which is a thousand-year-old monastery and then follow a rock wall. Once we reach out of Khangsar, we will descend a bridge in Thorong Khola valley and cross it. Then we hike up to a plateau to reach Yak Kharka. From here we can see changes in the surroundings and the mesmerizing view of Annapurna mountains range with any other peaks. The trek to Yak Kharka takes about 6-7 hours. We will also see blue sheep (bharal in Nepalese language). And in rare cases, a snow leopard as well.

Today’s trek will take about 5 hours where we will go uphill to Thorong Phedi. Thorong Pedi is a small settlement with beautiful views of mountains and landscapes. The climb will be slow to Ledar. We will then wind up ascending the trek along the barren windswept Terran. We will continue along a zig-zag track towards Upper Phedi. Once we reach we will also get to see the views of Mt Gundang, Mt Syagang, Thorong Peak, and Mt Khatungkun. We will stay in Thorong Pedi for the night.

Day 12 is the most challenging day of the trip of Annapurna Circuit Trek. Today, we will cross Thorong La Pass(5,416 m), one of the highest passes in the world. It is also the highest point of our trip. We will start our day early at 3 am. We will walk through the icy air to the high altitude. The climb will be hard but the scenery from Thorung La pass will make it totally worth our hardship. The panoramic view of the stunning Himalayan peaks extends northwards into Tibet. We will catch the best view of Damodar, Bhirkuti, Annapurna, and the Dhaulagiri mountain range. Then we descend to Muktinath temple. It is regarded as one of the most sacred places for both Hindus as well as Buddhists. The Buddhists call it Ghumig Gyatsa, which means ‘Hundred Waters’ in Tibetan.

Many people come to visit Muktinath temple from all over Nepal as well as India. The temple houses water spouts where freshwater outs channeled from the streams above the temple. There are 108 Dhara through which cold and freshwater flow continuously. After exploring the temple, we will continue our trek to Jomson through the windy areas on the Kali Gandaki valley where we will come across many small villages too. The trek from Muktinath to Jomsom will take about 6 hours. We will rest in Jomson for the night for an early flight tomorrow.

Today will be an early flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. You will see many mesmerizing views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. The flight is 15 minutes long that goes over the deepest gorge in the world. In Pokhara, the climate is warmer and the environment and atmosphere are delightful there. You can enjoy the scenery of the Phewa, Rupa and Begnas Lake. You can go boating and visit the Taal Barahi Temple. You can go rafting and some adventures like Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, Bat Cave and, Mahendra Cave. There are many restaurants, café, and pubs that you can go to and enjoy other adventures as well.

We will fly or drive back to Kathmandu today according to your preference. The drive to Kathmandu from Pokhara will cover 200km (124 miles) and take 6-7 hours on a tourist bus. Whereas the flight to Kathmandu will take 25 minutes. Once you reach Kathmandu, we will transfer you to a hotel. You can take the rest of the day off or you can visit the nearby places and market. You can buy souvenirs or other items as well.

Today you will take your flight back to your home. You will be accompanied by our representative to the airport approximately 3 hours before your flight is scheduled.

How is the weather climate at Annapurna Circuit Tilicho trekking region?

The two seasons where people most choose to travel in Nepal during spring and autumn. In spring/pre-monsoon (Feb, March, April, and May), the weather in this month is stable and dry with a moderate climate. It can be considered as a fairly perfect time for trekking in the Annapurna region. There will be a clear view of the mountain ranges and sceneries. The temperature can reach up to 18- 23 degrees Celsius in the daytime and can drop down to - 8/12 degrees Celsius in the night. You can see many variations of flora and vegetation during spring that make the trek more beautiful and enjoyable in Nepal.

Autumn (Post monsoon) is another great season for going on an adventure in Annapurna Circuit Trek. This season takes place in the months of September, October, November, and December. During the season, the temperatures range from 12-20 degrees in the daytime, and -5/10 degrees Celsius at night. The weather is cooler and it is a great time for trekking.
