Manaslu Circuit Trek: Complete Guide

Manaslu Circuit Trek is daunting yet exciting trek takes you around Manaslu, the world's eighth highest mountain at 8,163 meters (26,781 ft).

Manaslu Circuit Trek is the best place to hike for adventurers who prefer some less crowded hiking spot with spectacular mountain views and amazing flora and faunas. This place offers some of the best sceneries, waterfalls, landscapes, and forests along the way. With our fantastic trekking packages and experienced guides, you can have an unforgettable time trekking to Manaslu Circuit.

Despite the recent popularity of Manaslu Circuit Trek, this place is still very remote. The paths are steep, but that's the fun of it. For hikers who've already been to Annapurna Base Camp or other high altitude treks, Manaslu is an excellent alternative.

This 16 days long journey offers you everything you'd expect from a trek, so it should not be missed by any true adventurer out there.

Overview: Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek has been many adventurous trekkers' holy grail for many decades for its unmatchable beauty. Located at the height of 8,163 meters, Mt Manaslu certainly sees fewer people than its neighbors Mt Annapurna and Mt Ganesh.

The same goes for Manaslu Circuit Trek, because of its off-the-beaten, challenging and remote trails. However, these things don't seem to stop the thrill-seeking trekkers out there.

This circuit is situated along the border of Nepal and Tibet. So you will find people of different ethnicities, Hindus and Buddhists, and their own unique cultures and lifestyle. The paths are full of alpine beauty, breathtaking rhododendron trees, scenic mountain views, challenging trails, and everything that makes a trek complete.

Only two percent of travelers go for the Manaslu Circuit Trek, which means you won't be jolting for space with any fellow hiker while making your way up in those steep hills. The less crowdedness of this place is what attracts most trekkers here.

This circular tour to Manaslu starts with a fun six to eight hours drive to Seti Khola. Upon reaching the town of Seti Khola, you will find yourself surrounded by cheerful rural energy. The next day you will be hiking up to Machha Khola. Extensive rice terraces, jaw-droppingly high suspension bridges, beautiful green rivers, and dense forests with all kinds of flora and fauna, it is going to be a love at first sight for nature lovers.

After sixth day of trekking, you will be in a village called Deng. Here you will be getting some glances of the snowy peaks. After trekking further, you will reach Namrung village, famous for spectacular views of the mountains like Ganesh and Himalchuli.

You will be trekking towards the Samagaon village located at the highest point of the Buri Gandaki valley. The air will be thin, so you must acclimatize at this place and prepare yourself for the journey ahead. Once you've adjusted to the oxygen level, you will be heading towards Samdo, Dharamshala. You will immediately be rewarded with spectacular views of Larkya Glacier and the Larkya peak. From here, you will be walking across the moraines of the beautiful glacier. Mountains like Himlung, Cheo Himal, and Annapurna II will be close to you, and you will surely get an immense sense of relief and achievement. After hiking further, you will pass the villages in Dharapani following the Annapurna Circuit trails in reverse. Your journey will end at Basi Sahar from where you'll drive back to Kathmandu.

Today's trail is full of ascends and descends along the paths through the forests and rivers. The lust forests are full of monkeys and langurs, so bags must be taken care of. Do not worry; they don't attack! After hiking through the monkey forests, we will reach Gurung village, where you will need to show your trekking permits.

On our way, we'll come across the famous Tatopani, where the water is fresh and warm. We can take a relaxing bath in the natural hot spring and gather energy for the journey ahead. After the relaxation, we will continue hiking towards Jagat and call it a day once we reach there.

We will continue our hike and pass through those luscious green forests and rhododendron thickets. Today's hike is all about ascending elevations, so prep for walking on steep hills and trails. After a long trek, we will reach a junction where the trail separates to Tsum valley, on the right before reaching our destination, Deng. You will know you've reached Deng once you see traditional Gumbas and Buddhist monasteries and flags waving at you.

We will be hiking via Lho Gumba passing through villages, and Tibetian-style houses and 'mani' (walls). While getting a spectacular view of the Manaslu mountain. Keep your cameras handy cause the sight is going to be amazing. Here you will also get to visit the Ribum monastery.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today we will be taking our time and hike slowly towards Samdo. As the altitude is higher, rushing is never a good idea. Take your time, sip lots of water along the way, and enjoy nature as you walk. You will get a great view of Mt. Manaslu II, Mt. Himchuli, Naike Peak on the way. Keep an eye out as you might spot several species of birds fluttering around.

After a short hike, we will be in Samdo. Take a rest to acclimatize or go around to explore the villages nearby and call it a day.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

You must have fallen in love with the Samdo village by now. It is beautiful, and there is so much to see here. Today we will be exploring this village and acclimatizing again.

We will visit the Samdo peak first and explore the surrounding, enjoying mountains like Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Simrang, Mt. Hiunchuli, Mt. Ngadi, Larkye Peak, Cheo, and Kang Guru. The Tibetian border is nearby, in case you'd want to visit. You might spot Nepal's national bird Lophophorous (Monal or Danfe) here, so keep an eye out. You can decide to do all these exploring or resting for a day.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

After a day of exploring and resting, on day 10, we head toward Dharmasala. This trail offers an excellent panoramic view of the Manaslu range. On your way, you will see the beautiful Lake Phedi.

Once we reach Dharmasala, we will be exploring the villages nearby.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today is going to be an exciting day. We will be crossing Larkya Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in Nepal, and the highest point of our trek. We will be only descending from here.

We will be offered the best views of Mt. Annapurna II (7,937 m), Kang Guru (6,981 m), and Mt. Himlung (7,126 m) on our way. Watching the sunrise from here is a must, so make sure you sleep early. It is going to be a once in a lifetime experience!

From here, we descend towards Bimthang, passing through icefalls and glaciers.

The trails are going to be challenging, but that's the fun of it. Care must be taken along the way.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today is the day our trek ends. It's going to be a downhill trek, and your knees might hurt a bit. Amble, and do not rush at all.

From here, we will be inside the Annapurna Conservation Area and very close to Annapurna Circuit Trek. Our trek ends here too. You might want to contact your family and friends at this point, as there is phone reception in this area.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Bid farewell to the beautiful Manaslu Circuit Trek. Today is our final day on the trek, where we will be taking a short hike across Dudh Khola and then take a jeep to Besisahar and then back to Kathmandu.
