Before we jump into the details about the trip, here's a quick list of highlights about Langtang Valley Trek.

Trip Overview: Langtang Valley Trek

Despite situated just a few-hour-drive away from Kathmandu valley, Lantang is still an underrated destination for adventure trekking. It could be because of the fierce competition given by the popular trek options like ABC and Everest.

This 10-day trek takes you to the core of the Langtang region. Since this region is highly influenced by Tibetian culture, Buddhism is the dominant religion here. You will get to witness the cultures and traditions diversity of the Buddhist Tamangs and Sherpas, which is so unique and fascinating. This short trek rewards you with excellent views at every step. There are also many side treks that you can take part in offering even better views. Located at such a high altitude, you will taste the rural life that will warm your heart with gratitude. The charming and kind-hearted Tamang people will have a place in your heart throughout your lives.

Now you might wonder if Langtang Valley trek is worth your time and money. But let me tell you that it is! Not just for the cultural diversity and the spectacular views it offers, but also because this place truly deserves the attention. After suffering through a massive earthquake and enduring vast damage in 2015, Langtang Valley is open for business and offers an abundance of adventures to everyone. The people here are amazing, the food is excellent, the natural beauty is unmatched, and most importantly, with your one visit, you will be supporting the local livelihood and business.

Langtang's resilient people work very hard to get the life they had before the massive earthquake left many with nothing. They are still rebuilding their homes and struggling for better lives. You will get to hear stories of bravery and tragedies that will surely move you. The adorable little tea house and the small, cozy rooms in the mountains will always stay in your memories.

The fascinating village life, the freshness of the pristine countryside, and the abundance of breathtaking flora and faunas in the Langtang Valley is something you won't find anywhere else. There are animals like Himalayan deers, Himalayan bears, red panda, Himalayan monkeys, Himalayan pheasants, and many more that you'll spot during your journey. So you better be on a lookout with a camera handy!

About Trails: Langtang Valley Trek

This challenging yet exciting trek starts with a long drive from Kathmandu valley towards the north, along the beautiful Trishuli river. Driving through the busy Trishuli Bazar, crossing many hills and villages along the way, you will reach your start point of the trek, Syabrubesi. It is an adorable small Sherpa village, which will be a breath of fresh rural air for you. This route acted as a significant trading channel with Tibet back in the days, and it is still full of shops and traders.

From here on, we will be only ascending our way up to the dense forests. The trails are filled with flora and fauna, magnificent waterfalls cheering for your every step, views of green stretched rice terraces, farmlands, fresh streams with water clear as crystal, bright red forests of rhododendron, and little peaks of the snow-capped mountains. There's a sight to see at every point. Untouched by the wave of urbanization, this region has biodiversity so unique and well-preserved.

Upon further trekking to the higher altitude, you will spot some local wildlife like musk deer and Nepal's national bird, Danphe. Along the trails, you'll get occasional glimpses of mountains like Langtang Ri, Dorje Lapka, Yansa Tsenji, Langtang Lirung, and many more.

You will know you're in Langtang village once you start seeing the smiley Tamang people offering help. They are known for the best hospitality and charming personalities. This village has varieties of cultures and traditions. Decorated with gorgeous Mani walls, meadows, small plateaus, and vast yak pastures, you will instantly fall in love with the Langtang village. Acclimatizing along the journey and moving slowly yet consistently, we will be hiking towards the ancient Kyangjim Gompa. Surrounded by mountains in all directions, this place is one of the most beautiful destinations in Nepal.

Here we will visit the cheese factories in this region. You will get to taste the real fresh cheese made by the locals. The area is home to many Buddhist monasteries. Explore the village and enjoy the taste of rural life. For an extra hike, head towards the trails of Tserko Ri (4,985M). The path to this spot is daunting and steep, but the view from up there is something you will never forget. It offers a panoramic 360-degree view of stunning Himalayas. Along the way, you'll also come across many chilling glaciers.

From here, we'll be returning to Kyangjim Gompa. Hiking down the hills and along the river-side trails, we will head towards our endpoint Syabrubesi. Bidding farewell to the beautiful rural life, we will be taking a bus back to Kathmandu.

The best time for Langtang Valley Trek is from March to May. These seasons are perfect because of the chill weather as it's the spring. Springtime is an excellent time for trekking as the forests are greener, flowers are blooming, and everything is fresher and prettier. Is acclimatization necessary while trekking Langtang Valley?

The answer is absolute! Altitude sickness is one of the significant risks faced by trekkers during these kinds of adventures. Since we will be hiking to a maximum elevation of nearly 5000 meters, acclimatization is a must.

We will be spending around two days at an altitude above 3500 meters. Your body will need time to adjust to the height, which is why we will first acclimate at Kyanjin Gompa. When in such high elevation, any symptom of sickness must be cared for. Our guides are trained for when things go wrong. With a first aid kit always handy and keeping the necessary medications for whenever required, our guides will be in charge of your safety throughout the journey.

To prevent the symptoms of altitude sickness, always keep drinking water, since you cannot afford to get dehydrated at this place. A minimum of 4 liters of water is enough to stay hydrated.

In case you get severe symptoms, our guides will help you descend safely and provide you the required health treatments.

But besides having excellent strength, you do not need any training of previous trekking experiences for this trek.

But if you're someone who doesn't work out that often, you can prepare yourself for the trek with some cardio exercises. Try swimming and running as they help boost your stamina. You can also start walking steep roads and taking stairs for a while.
